What is the problem if I can't access the internet?
Sometimes the modem/router can lock up. Try to unplug the power supply of the modem/router for 1 minute
then plug it back in again. If you have to do this several times each week or notice a slow down in speeds then
it may be time to replace your router/modem-please contact us. Also, if you are on the AFCity network, we
recommend that you upgrade to a linksys or D-link router instead of the SMC that the city has provided you
with. See our Safe Internet link for recommended router models. Unfortunately, we have seen a very high failure
rate with the SMC products.
I can receive email, but I cannot send what could be the problem?
Make sure that your outgoing mail server is mail.afconnect.com, also if you have another pop3 email account
besides afconnect, then you must set the outgoing smtp server to mail.afconnect.com (see the wizards above)
or get this other email server approved. You can get it approved by filling out the contact us form or give us
a call. One last thing to try is to reboot your machine. If all fails then contact us and we can help.
I can send email but I cannot receive it, what is going on?
First check that your antivirus software (firewall) is allowing incoming email. We have seen this a lot and therefore it
is the most likely reason. Next verify the email client(outlook, outllook express, mac, thunderbird, etc.) settings are
correct (email address for the username, and password). You can check to see if the password is correct by attempting
to login here at the website. Check that your incoming mail server is set to mail.afconnect.com. (see wizrds above).
Try rebooting, then please contact us if it continues to fail.
How can I protect my family from pornography?
Go to our Safe Internet page and download K9webprotection. This software is sold commercially to business but is one
of the best free programs for residential. They have many other categories you can choose to filter on as well.
How can I get rid of these annoying pop-ups?
Do not download free "stuff" OR purchase programs from non reputable or unknown sites, OR from file sharing programs.
Most of this software contains adware or spyware and many times malicious viruses. Only download from reputable
sites. Try using free software called adaware to clean your machine. A link to this site can be found on our Safe Internet page.
Also, a good site to download free and 100% clean programs is from softpedia.com. Please call us if you need your machine
cleaned professionally. We charge $80.00 per machine.
What is the best way to pay my bill?
On our website click on pay my bill. You can also setup any credit card to be automatically withdrawn on the each month,

Can I be setup on an automatic credit card payment?
Yes it is easy. Go to Pay my bill on this site and fill out the credit card form and select "yes charge this card
each month"
How do I setup my Outlook, Outlook Express and Other Email clients to receive email?
Go to tools | email accounts OR accounts | Select add new email account |select POP3 as the server type |
enter your email address in the user name field | enter your password | enter mail.afconnect.com for the
incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP server| accedpt the rest of the defaults and select finish. click on any of the
wizards above named with the text "help on how to setup outlook". Other email clients like Mac mail, Thuderbird,
eudora, etc are very similar. Simply find where to enter your email address (for the user account) and password.
Enter mail.afconnect.com for the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
I get a lot of spam email, how can I filter all of this junk?
Spammers have very effective programs that cull the internet looking for your email, so keeping your email private
is always the best way to keep spammers from sending you junk. You can create a free "disposable" email account
from hotmail or yahoo, or afconnect (we want to help!) then use it for online purchases and junk email. Create your
"real" spam filtered afconnect email to use for work or family. Also, do NOT participate in chain email letters or forward-
ing schemes (not even if a family member sends you something). This is one very effective way spammers can get your
email address. Go to our Safe Internet page and download a very good free program, Spamfighter for outlook and
outlook express.
What is a router?
A router will allow you to connect multiple computers to each other (LAN) and to the internet.
What is a Modem?
A modem is very similar to a router except that it is typically used with DSL and Cable connections.
Can I connect more than one machine to the Internet?
Yes, however you may need a router as well. Typically a standard modem from Qwest will only connect 1 computer
to the internet. If you have DSL and have a 1 port modem, then you need to purchase a router to connect more
than one machine to the internet.
How do I make my Internet connection Wireless?
Just buy a wireless router to plug into your modem or existing router. We recommend D-link or
linksys brand. AFConnect customers can get free professional instruction on how to properly secure
and install a wireless network OR we will come to your home or business and configure it for just $20.
What is the best wireless router to purchase?
We have found Linksys OR D-link to be the most reliable. Look on our Safe Internet page for the recommended models.
Is Anti-virus necessary?
Yes. It is probably the single most important software to buy to protect and secure your machine from hackers and
viruses. The statistics say that a Windows box(95% of all systems) only takes about 30 minutes of surfing without a
firewall (anti virus) before your machine is infected with viruses, malware and adware.
What is the best all in one Anti-virus software?
We like Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007, because it is a very effective all in one solution. It can be
downloaded from the internet, and 1 download can be installed on 3 machines. It does not take up a lot of memory,
it does not restrict internet access and it does not throw configuration pop ups every few seconds like Norton will.

Are file sharing programs safe? (i.e. Limewire, Bareshare, etc.)
File sharing programs can cause havoc for the customer and the ISP. They are very popular among the younger crowd,
but the problems (security holes, bandwidth hogs, viruses, malware, etc.) far outweigh the benefits of using them.
